Green Bay Police Department Hires First African-American Officer

The Green Bay Police Department has an African-American officer for the first time in the department’s 152-year history.

Solomon Ayres hits the streets this week, beginning the first phase of a 17-week training program

Fran Jonet, the president of Green Bay’s Police and Fire Commission says the hiring is a long-awaited step in the right direction.

The Green Bay Police Department has 177 sworn officers. That includes 15 women, four Native Americans or Alaskan Natives and one Hispanic.
