Evelynn Hammonds named new dean of Harvard College
Harvard University’s senior vice provost for faculty development and diversity has been named the new dean of Harvard College.Evelynn Hammonds, a history of science and African American studies professor, is the first African-American and the first woman to assume the post. She will be responsible for overseeing undergraduate students and the curriculum.
Harvard President Drew Faust says Hammonds is a fine scholar, a strong leader and someone who cares about students.
Hammonds says her priorities will be to implement the new general education curriculum and improve student living conditions.
Hammonds officially takes over from David Pilbeam on June 1.
