In conjunction with the release of One Million Men and Me, (written by Kelly Starling Lyons, illustrated by Peter Ambush), independent and Black-owned publisher Just Us Books is sponsoring ” nationwide writing contest called “My Most Memorable Moment with My Father.” Students in first through fifth grades are invited to share the most special moment they’ve shared with their father or father figure. Entries can be prose or poetry; must be 100-300 words for first through third grade entrants, 250-500 words for fourth and fifth grade entrants and must be typed. Entry deadline is January 31, 2008. Prizes will be given for first place ($250) and second place ($100). Complete contest details are available at www.justusbooks.com.”

The book and the contest celebrate Black Fathers and father figures who make a positive difference in the lives of our
young people.

*Note from ToE: Not only does the contest celebrate fathers but it promotes writing in young people. Pass this opportunity on to as many children as possible.
