SOURCE: Associated Press

The United States Postal Service has released a set of stamps honoring early African-American players and their contributions to the nation’s culture and history. The unveiling of the stamps took place at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo. One stamp depicts an umpire giving an emphatic safe sign as a player slides across home plate just ahead of the catcher’s tag. The other is a portrait of Rube Foster, an African-American athlete, manager and businessman who formed the Negro National League in 1920.
