by Ellen Banner, Seattle Times

Dr. Bernard Harris, the first African American astronaut to walk in space, watches as two Madison Middle School sixth graders, Enya Garcia and Ben Vo, sit on seats that came from a real space shuttle as they watch images of a liftoff on the screen above.

Harris visited the school Friday morning and spoke about his professional experiences and encouraged the students to reach their own personal potential through problem-solving skills they learn in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Seattle is Harris’ first stop of his national 2009 “Dream Tour,” which will visit numerous cities across America.
