On Thursday actress Viola Davis (“Doubt”) was tapped with a Golden Globe nomination for her supporting role as the mother of a black boy who a nun (Meryl Streep) suspects is being abused by the new priest (Philip Seymour Hoffman). The critically acclaimed movie is set in 1964 and is a screen adaption of an award-winning stage play of the same name. Despite its rave reviews “Doubt” failed to garner a Best Movie nomination.
Beyonce Knowles was also nominated in the best song category for her performance of “Once in a Lifetime” in Cadillac Records.
ABC’s “A Raisin in the Sun” adaptation was nominated for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Its cast included Phylicia Rashad, Sean Combs, Sanaa Lathan and Audra McDonald.
The Golden Globes is the biggest award show second only to the Academy Awards and often are seen as a preview of the the Academy Awards will do.
