Olympic swimmer and gold medalist Cullen Jones is soaking up his fame and celebrity right now, but he still has his eyes focused on working in the Black community.
Jones is gearing up to launch his Diversity Tour, a tour that heads to major urban cities where he will try to get more Black children into the swimming pool not only for fun, but to save lives. According to studies, more than half of African-American children can’t swim and nine African-American children drown every day.
“Right after I got the gold medal, I was at the Hometown Hopefuls center for Bank of America and they ended up giving me $10,000 to help with my diversity tour,” Jones recently told BET’s All Access. “That really excited me and it was written all over my face. Since I have gotten it and I have this time off now, it’s really going to help jump start the diversity tour.”
The Cullen Jones Diversity Tour will include swim meets and clinics for minority youth throughout the country. The cities and dates have yet to be announced, but if you’re itching to see Jones, he recently appeared on Inside Edition looking so fresh and so clean. The entertainment TV magazine called Jones and Men’s Vogue to participate in a photo shoot for the show to air this week.
