From starlet to superstar, blazing actress Kerry Washington sat down with YO! to discuss her latest movie, Lakeview Terrace co-starring Samuel L. Jackson and Patrick Wilson. Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment produced the film, is set for release in theaters on September 19th.

The film is set in So Cal suburbia, where disgruntled police officer and single father, Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) meets his new neighbors of whom he disapproves, interracial newlyweds- Chris (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington). What begins as some “friendly” competition seeing who can have the last laugh, takes a turn for the worst when Able introduces some dangerous intimidation tactics.

The film has a phenomenal leading cast. Samuel L. Jackson’s character is reminiscent of Denzel Washington’s role in Training Day; bad cop that everyone loves to hate. Kerry Washington brings to life her character Lisa, expressing with precision the emotion and trauma introduced by her not so friendly neighbor. Wilson’s creates a believable character in Chris Mattson, who simply wants to enjoy life with his beautiful wife and settle down in his new home without being the victim of unprompted prejudice.

Director Neil LaBute does a masterful job of contrasting the peaceful, suburban, neighborhood with the riveting tension occurring within the two rival homes. Substituting a high-energy score for the ambient sounds of the neighborhood, anticipation builds as the audience is drawn in to the world of these characters. The intensity lingers all the way up to the shocking ending.

Lakeview Terrace is definitely worth a trip to the silver screen!
