Travis Parker honored for commitment to students

A Cosumnes River College instructor, coach and role model has been recognized as one of the four recipients of a top state award from the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges.

Travis Parker, a physical education instructor and coach of track and soccer teams, has received the annual Hayward Award for Excellence in Education for demonstrating the highest level of commitment to students, the college and the profession.

Parker started the soccer program at CRC in 1979, the first in the sport for the Los Rios Community College District. Parker is thought to have been the first African American head soccer college coach west of the Mississippi River.
