New organization in Fayetteville

“A strong relationship, consistent and quality one-on-one relationship — that influences that child’s life,” said Washington. “Mentoring gives you that capability.”A new organization in Fayetteville is looking to make a difference in the community one child at a time. Great Oak Youth Development Centers was created 18 months ago to reach out to young black men and boys.

Organizers say they want to make a difference in children at risk of drug use, unemployment, jail, and dropping out of school. Bobby Washington, executive director for Great Oak believes a promising future starts with a strong foundation.

“A strong relationship, consistent and quality one-on-one relationship — that influences that child’s life,” said Washington. “Mentoring gives you that capability.”
