Robin Mungo mentors inner city kids

leave a comment »

Pennsylvania state trooper Robin Mungo is a public information officer at the state police Moon barracks. She spends a lot of time with local children. She speaks to the kids at inner city schools

“I tell them I know they don’t like the five-oh or the po-po, but you shouldn’t stereotype us all the same because there’s good and bad in every profession,” Mungo said. “I tell them about the positive things we do on the job, things like when a white trooper kicked in a toilet stall to give a black man mouth to mouth, or when we deliver babies or run into burning buildings and rescue people.

Her usual lecture lasts only 45 minutes, which isn’t a long time. But each summer, Mungo stages Camp Cadet, a week-long, mini-police academy where kids between the ages of 12 and 14 learn about crime scene investigation, self-reliance, communication skills and other traits that will help them later in life.
