On Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Andersen Enrichment Center in Saginaw 23 will graduate from the inaugural class of the Saginaw County African-American Leadership Training Institute.

The 10-month intitute, similar to Leadership Saginaw County, acquaints participants with the movers and shakers throughout mid-Michigan. Jimmy E. Greene established the institute with assistance from sponsors.

The all-male class studied government, higher education, law, finance, social services, media, arts, interpersonal relations and entrepreneurship.

Dennis D. Woods II said he feels that way.

The 25-year-old Saginaw County Mental Health therapist has a bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University and master’s degree from Wayne State University, “but the education I received from the institute is on a whole ‘nother level.”

“It just blew my mind to learn how receptive everyone was to us, and we surprised them too in that there are black MBA’s in Saginaw” who want to live here.
