African American Chamber of Commerce seeks to help Black business owners

Albuquerque businessmen Ron Hinson and Ronnie Wallace have gone to the grass roots to seek out a largely invisible population — the state’s black business owners — to bring them into the greater economic fold through training and promotion.

Although it’s open to all businesses, the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico is searching the state for one of its smallest minorities.

“Unless you have experience being a minority, you won’t understand how people feel left out,” Hinson said. “Many minority business entrepreneurs are not properly taught all the things they need to know to be part of mainstream commerce.”
