AAFCA honors “The Great Debaters”, Don Cheadle and more

The African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) recently gave out its annual honors.

Best Movie: “The Great Debaters”
Best Actor 2007: Don Cheadle in “Talk to Me”
Best Supporting Actress 2007: Ruby Dee in “American Gangster”
Best Supporting Actor 2007: Chiwetel Ejiofor in “American Gangster”
Best Director 2007: Kasi Lemmon for “Talk to Me”
AAFCA Special Achievement Honor 2007: Charles Burnett

*Marion Cottilard was awarded Best Actress for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose, despite not being of African-American descent. AAFCA President Gil Robertson, IV stated, “Although our organization gives specific consideration to work by artists of African descent, Ms. Cotillard’s astonishing portrayal of Edith Piaf is a standout performance worthy of recognition.”
