HBO, ‘Perry’ Lead Cable’s Image Award Nominations

Home Box Office and TBS’s comedy series Tyer Perry’s House of Payne garnered the lion’s share of cable’s NAACP Image Award nominations, announced Wednesday
HBO drew nine nominations – including an outstanding drama series nod for its now-retired series The Wire– while TBS’s House Of Payne garnered six nominations, including outstanding comedy series, according to the civil rights organization. The NAACP Image Awards honor African-American excellence in television, music and movies.
Tyler Perry and Halle Berry will host the 40th annual ceremony, which airs live on Fox Feb. 12.
Other cable networks garnering nominations include: Lifetime (five), Hallmark (three); Black Entertainment Television and ABC Family (two apiece); and USA Network A&E, CNN, TV One, Sundance Channel, Bravo, FX, and MTV (all with one).
Disney Channel and Nickelodeon programs represented all nomination slots in the outstanding children’s Program and outstanding performance in a youth/children’s program, series or special categories.
Broadcast network ABC led all television networks with 24 nominations, followed by CBS with 14 and the CW and NBC with 10 each.
