The Harvey B. Gantt African-American Art and Cultural Center to open in 2009

with 3 comments

Leaders of the Afro-American Cultural Center have unveiled the formal name of its new facility currently under construction in uptown Charlotte.

It is to be named after Harvey B. Gantt, a principal with Gantt Huberman Architects, who was born in Charleston and in 1963 became the first black student at Clemson University in South Carolina. He also served on the Charlotte City Council before becoming mayor in 1983, and ran for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina twice.

  1. I would like to know if you are hiring or taking resumes now for employment at the center. Please email me all information you have at this time.
    Thanks.

  2. You would need to contact the Center for more information. This site solely chronicles information of interest to Black people.

  3. My church’s Bible Study group is interested in visiting the center. Do you offer tours? A current phone number would also be helpful. Many thanks. Y.B.
